My ADHD Story and How I became an ADHD Coach

Near the end of 2019, I left my role as an HR Director for a large restaurant company with close to 1000 people.  In the last years working there, I noticed that things were more challenging for me.  Of course, I hid that from everyone by staying late most days to keep up.  Even so, I knew that people around me were noticing as I'd forget names, make silly errors, or struggle to find the right words.  It was horrifying.

Fortunately, a year later, while on a Covid walk, I was listening to a podcast where the guest speaker, Shaun Roney, was being interviewed about her work with women and ADHD.  Frankly, I wasn't interested and almost turned it off because I didn't know anyone who had it-let alone me.

I was SO WRONG!  When Shaun listed how ADHD shows up in women, my mouth dropped open.  I remember exactly where I was when I heard it.  After listening to the show at least a half dozen more times to confirm and taking every assessment I could find online, I scheduled time with a psychiatrist who confirmed it.

So, at the age of 51, I learned about women and ADHD, was diagnosed, and began to feel so much better about my life as I looked at it through this new lens. By my next birthday, I was enrolled in specialized ADHD coach training to add to my current coach certifications.

I wish I had known about my ADHD earlier.  It would have made a world of difference in how I showed up in my adult life.  College would have been easier and honestly, my whole life would have been more understandable.  Most importantly, I wouldn't have felt so alone, and my self-esteem wouldn't have been as battered.

I don't want others to have to walk this path alone.  In my practice, I weave together my experience in HR  (managing ADHD at work), building healthy habits that scale to routines (Tiny Habits), and my work as a mindset coach and Dare to Lead™ facilitator to support professionals like you to thrive, not just survive.

“To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.”
